The yard is managed and maintained by Jo & Ed Smithies and their three, horse- mad girls. Jo has been a keen horse woman for 35 years. She had her first riding lesson as a little girl and got her first pony at the age of 8 years. After serving her time with her local pony club and competing at the local shows she acquired a black thoroughbred which was to start her successful Affiliated Show Jumping career. Together they moved through the ranks from Newcomers to Foxhunter, to Grade C's and then onto Open tracks. Jo also taught and nurtured a succession of youngsters through the affiliated ranks but the black thoroughbred remained her top horse.

Jo has always believed in Natural Horsemanship and was introduced to the world of Western riding two years ago. She was delighted to find that western riding is founded on the principles of Natural Horsemanship and the relationship between horse and rider. This basic ideology can improve all styles of riding and can only benefit both horse and rider through a greater understanding of each other. The result is that she is now very keen to help everyone discover the joy of western riding and to pass on her own years of experience in equestrian competition.

Naturally, her three daughters now also ride western and compete regularly at UK events and like Jo, are affiliated to the Western Equestrian Society (WES)
